The Kansas City Chiefs have announced their final decision on Xavier Worthy playing in the Philadelphia Eagles game.
The Kansas City Chiefs have a very high-profile game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, September 14, and it’s going to be a major matchup that serves as a rematch of the championship game last season. The Eagles enjoyed a solid but close win over the Dallas Cowboys in their first game of the season, but the Kansas City Chiefs are following an upset loss to the Los Angeles Charges. So, the Chiefs are more motivated than ever to win this one.
So, the Chiefs can ensure a 1-1 start if they beat the Eagles, and it would sure help for them to have some of their best players by their side. Now, looking at the team’s injury report, the Chiefs have announced their final decision on whether star wide receiver Xavier Worthy will be playing in Sunday’s game.
Worthy has actually played in ever game of his NFL career so far, appearing in all 17 games of the Chiefs’ 2024-25 season. So, it would be a big deal to miss this one.
Kansas City Chiefs Wide Receiver Xavier Worthy’s Status
The Kansas City Chiefs listed Worth as doubtful on Friday, September 13, so there was some hope that he would be available for Sunday’s game. But, on Saturday, September 14, the Kansas City Chiefs downgraded Worthy to out, so he won’t be on the field.
That’s a huge negative for the Chiefs but it’s not exactly unexpected. Worthy’s injury seemed serious enough to keep him out for at least another game. The biggest question is just when he will be available, since his participation in the full season is important to the Chiefs.
The Eagles have some injury news of their own. NFL insider Tom Pelissero has reported that Philadelphia tight end Dallas Goedert won’t be playing in Sunday’s game due to a knee injury. In a post on X on Friday, September 12, he stated, “TE Dallas Goedert (knee) has been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the #Chiefs.”
That will likely be felt by the Eagles, since he was a key player. In the Eagles’ win over Dallas, he had seven receptions for 44 yards.
Jalen Royals will also be out for the Chiefs, which was expected. So, it will be an interesting mix of playing on the field for both teams on Sunday.
Kansas City Chiefs vs. Philadelphia Eagles
So, who’s going to win this game? It’s shaping up to be a thriller, for certain. In a Thursday, September 11, feature for the NFL’s website, Ali Bhanpuri, Tom Blair, Brooke Cersosimo and Dan Parr break down the Week 2 matchups and who they think will win.
They pick the Chiefs to win, with Brooke noting, “I could be completely wrong, but I’m willing to die on the Mahomes hill for a while longer.”
Brooke also notes that “On paper, the Chiefs might have very few advantages over the Eagles — quarterback and run defense, among them — but there are several historical aspects I’m leaning into with this pick,” with one being that the Chiefs have never started 0-2 in the Mahomes era.
So, that’s a pretty good stat. Chiefs Kingdom knows it’s in good hands with Mahomes, even against the Eagles.
