The New York Jets started the season 0-1, and Will McDonald’s wallet just took a hit.
NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero shared on social media that McDonald was fined $14,491 for what the league deemed a “violent gesture.”
McDonald finished with two sacks in the season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers. After one of his sacks of Aaron Rodgers, McDonald celebrated by “pretending to throw a grenade,” according to Pelissero.

“Black (6-0, 192) was a seventh-round pick (No. 246 overall) of the Giants in last April’s NFL Draft. He played 62 games at Oklahoma State, recording 100 tackles, 25 PD, 4 INT, 3 FR and 2 FF. As a super senior in 2024, Black totaled 36 tackles, 12 PDs and 3 INT,” Jets senior reporter Eric Allen wrote in a press release.
“In preseason play, Black, a Kansas City, KS, native, had 2 defensive tackles and 1 special teams stop. He made the Giants’ initial 53-man roster but was waived and joined the Jets on Aug. 29,” Allen added.
Team Doesn’t Press Red Button at the Returner Spot
Jets fans wanted the team to keep undrafted free agent wide receiver Jamaal Pritchett on the 53-man roster over Xavier Gipson.
Despite that outside noise, the Jets chose Gipson over Pritchett. The South Alabama product was waived, cleared waivers, and returned to the Jets via their practice squad.
With Gipson getting waived this week, there was some hope amongst the fan base that Pritchett would finally get his NFL shot. It might happen eventually, but it won’t be this week.
“No returners were elevated, so the top candidates to handle punt and kickoff returns are Isaiah Williams, Isaiah Davis, and Arian Smith,” ESPN’s Rich Cimini said on social media.
