Leeds United board left red-faced as £35m talent shows them what they’re missing

Leeds United went into Saturday’s game hoping to continue their positive start to the season. The Whites had managed four points from a possible nine at the start of the season.

In just a short space of time, Daniel Farke has been able to identify what works in his team and what does not. A big part of what is not functioning in his team this season is the attack; which managed just two goals before the Fulham game. Leeds continued their poor form in front of goal on Saturday, as they had 10 shots, three on target and 21 touches in the opponents box but none of them found the back of the net. Farke’s men had a real chance of taking the lead in the first half, but failed to convert.

Fulham turned the game on its head, as they turned up the tempo. Unfortunately, Leeds sat back and absorbed the pressure in the hopes of getting a result. It took an own goal in injury time to seal all three points for Fulham.

One of the keys to changing the game for Fulham was their £34.6million Summer signing. Kevin came on the pitch and brought pace and trickery down the flank. He was a huge threat to Leeds on the left wing and his attempt on goal lead to the corner which produced the own goal. After the game, Marco Silva showered praise on the Brazilian for making an impact.

“The players who came in made a massive impact, it was not just Kevin, and helped the team to push the last minutes.

“These type of games we need a player with a different profile and Kevin has something that is not easy to find.

“He made a massive impact. It was a moment for us to push a bit more forward and he did it.

Leeds United seriously lack a game changer

Kevin came on the pitch and did damage, but Leeds had no one of his quality on their bench. The 49ers lack of investment in the attack looks to be backfiring on them. If Daniel Farke had a winger like Kevin on the pitch, the Whites could have stretched the game in the dying minutes.

Even the Leeds boss admitted that the club’s attackers are not ”Premier League” quality:

“I’ve addressed this, the players we have.

”We would just need a bit more quality in the offence like more or less each and every other Premier League side has. I can’t expect something from a player he’s not capable of delivering.”

Farke better hope his attackers are firing before they take on Wolves next weekend.
