There is more depth than ever for **Mikel Arteta**to use, and a key man in his plans is Noni Madueke. The winger was a standout figure against Nottingham Forest from the right flank. He talked to the media about his desire to "help my team win" and "bring joy to people" as targets that motivate him.
‘Mikel gives us freedom’
It was a new look front three for the Gunners. Eberechi Eze earned his first start for his boyhood club, and Madueke made his second successive start as a right winger in the absence of Bukayo Saka. The 23-year-old explained why he thought that the attack was so productive in this performance.
“Ebz and I play similarly in terms of we don't really think much - we just play what we see. In terms of the collective unit, Mikel gives us freedom to get the ball and to try and be dynamic and positive.”
Greater efficiency was possible, but at this stage of the season, there will always be room to improve. The winger looks forward to building on the platform of this display next week against Athletic Club.
“We probably could have scored even more goals today, but that's the process - we're four games into the season. We've got our Champions League game on Tuesday and I think as the season goes on, you'll see an even more clinical Arsenal side.”
No one completed more dribbles, key passes or crosses than the 23-year-old, who took the game to the guests in the first half. He is delivering upon his promise to be direct, take risks, and excite fans.
“That's what I play the game for, trying to help my team win, but also to bring joy to the people that are coming to watch. You never know who's watching for the first time or things like that, so that's definitely in my mind to try and inspire the crowd a little bit.”
Criticism in some circles of this £52 million transfer was far too vitriolic. But the self-belief of the attacker means that he has not been taking it too much to heart. Madueke is a man who is embracing the pressure of being the latest arrival from **Chelsea**and he appreciates support where he gets it.
“The love that the Emirates Stadium crowd have been showing me ever since my first game versus Villarreal in pre-season has been amazing. So, I'm so happy and God willing, it just continues.”
