West Ham implode again as they’re breezed past by Spurs

**West Ham suffer another embarrassing defeat, this time at home to Tottenham.**

The question after the Nottingham Forest game was simple: was West Ham turning a corner, or was it a one off? Well, their heavy defeat to Tottenham would suggest the latter.

Despite the final score, the first-half was actually fairly even. While neither side had many clear cut chances, Spurs did have a lot of corners and it was a corner that would give them their opening goal shortly after half-time.

As we’ve seen far too many times, this goal changed the game, heads dropped and the hosts capitulated.

Just 7 minutes later Tomas Soucek was unlucky to see red as a high, mistimed challenge for a bouncing ball left the referee with no choice but to dismiss the Czech.

Poor defending and questionable goalkeeper positioning saw Bergvall score a looping header to double Spurs’ lead shortly after Soucek’s sending off.

Yet more scrambled defending from the Irons allowed Van de Ven to finish the game off.

This issue of imploding after conceding one is something we’ve seen time and time again. It comes from a lack of leaders, a lack of quality in the spine of the team, and a manager who clearly can’t rally the players.

Potter spoke about good signs, but when there’s constantly positive signs with bad results when do they start becoming irrelevant?
