Buccaneers Receive Bad News on Chris Godwin, Tristan Wirfs Ahead of Week 2

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are heading into Week 2 against the Houston Texans, hoping to pick up their second win of the season.

Unfortunately, they will have to do so without Chris Godwin and Tristan Wirfs.

Godwin is still currently working his way back from a fractured and dislocated ankle. He was recently activated and returned to practice, but the Buccaneers are taking their time before getting him back out on the field.

Wirfs is also recovering from knee surgery and has yet to make his 2025 NFL season debut.

Both Wirfs and Godwin are solid contributors, and the Buccaneers definitely need them on the field, but not enough to worsen either injury.

Godwin is currently slated to return around Week 5, which makes sense considering the Buccaneers wanting to take their time with his recovery. Wirfs might return in Week 4, but that is not guaranteed just yet.

The good news is the Buccaneers have done well in their absence. In Week 1, the Bucs pulled off a 23-20 win against the Atlanta Falcons.

Baker Mayfield threw for 167 yards and three touchdowns, getting the ball for two scores to Emeka Eguba. Eguba has emerged as a solid rookie contributor and could be the receiver that will stay lined up alongside Mike Evans.

Evans secured 51 yards, while Bucky Irving caught the final touchdown pass for eight yards.

There are plenty of offensive pieces that the Buccaneers have, so they can take a little more time bringing Godwin back. When he returns, the offense will be even stronger.

The Buccaneers' offense also only gave up one sack to the Falcons, but Wirfs' return should help solidify the offensive line even more.

Following the Texans, the Buccaneers take on the New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles, and Seattle Seahawks.
