Alejandro Garnacho made his debut for Chelsea after his late transfer window move, and it did not go as planned.
Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim decided there was no place for Alejandro Garnacho in his plans for 2025/26 and beyond.
Despite the youngster’s talent, Amorim found that there was something missing, with Garnacho’s attitude found wanting. The forward blasted the coach after he was dropped for the Europa League Final, and this was the final straw.
United sold Garnacho at the end of the transfer window to Chelsea for £40 million, a somewhat risky move for all concerned.

Alejandro Garnacho makes Chelsea debut
Alejandro Garnacho came off the bench in the second half for Chelsea away at Brentford to make his debut on September 13.
He was a 79th minute substitute with the score at 1-1, and he thought he was going to celebrate a win when new teammate Moises Caicedo netted an impressive strike to put Chelsea 2-1 up in the 85th minute.
And then in the third minute of stoppage time, Joao Carvalho scored from close range after a corner to tie the game at 2-2.
Alejandro Garnacho was the closest Chelsea player to Carvalho and failed to get goalside. In short, he lost the man he was supposed to be marking.

He was blasted by Jamie Redknapp on Sky Sports, who said: “If he gets in behind you, it’s on you.”
And looking at social media, Chelsea fans are already unimpressed with the former Manchester United winger.
“Garnacho losing his man send him back,” one fan demanded.
Another wrote: “Garnacho cost Chelsea the game. Man United come and get him back.”
A third fan pointed out: “I don’t want to be that guy but Garnacho should have been defending the back post.”
And another moaned: “Great Garnacho cameo until he leaves his man at the back post and we concede.”
One fan demanded: “Hey Garnacho! We all defend, next time pick up your mark at the back post.”
And another with buyer’s remorse added: “Garnacho should have tracked back, they sold us a lazy guy.”
Manchester United host Chelsea next
Alejandro Garnacho will get an immediate return to Old Trafford, when Chelsea visit Manchester United in a week’s time.
The fixture calendar has dealt his first Premier League away trip to be his former club, and it will be interesting to see what type of reception he receives.
Garnacho has irritated a lot of Manchester United fans with his behaviour in 2025, but there remains some respect for what he achieved to lift FA Youth Cup silverware in 2022, and the FA Cup trophy in 2024.
