When Yoane Wissa is hoping to make Newcastle United debut as injury rules him out of Barcelona…

Eddie Howe has been handed a slight boost over Yoane Wissa’s injury at Newcastle United.

Wissa missed Newcastle United’s win over Wolves with a knee injury sustained while playing for DR Congo during the international break.

That was a huge blow for Newcastle United, although one slightly healed by the fact that fellow new arrival Nick Woltemade scored the winner on his debut.

Still, Newcastle paid around £55million to sign Wissa from Brentford and need an immediate return on their investment given he boasts very little in the way of resale value.

The fact Wissa was set to see a specialist after the knock would have worried supporters.

However, it seems his scan has come back with reasonably positive results.

Yoane Wissa ruled out until October

According to Keith Downie of Sky Sports on social media platform X, Wissa has avoided an ACL injury.

However, Wissa is now set to miss between four and five weeks of action.

He will likely return after next month’s international break, obviously ruling him out of Thursday’s huge clash against Barcelona in the Champions League.

That means he could make what will be a long-awaited debut for the club at that point when Newcastle travel down to Brighton on Saturday, 18 October, 2025.

How many games Yoane Wissa missed through injury for Brentford

This is undoubtedly rotten luck for Newcastle United.

Wissa missed only 14 games through injury during his four-year spell at Brentford, so to miss at least six games straight after signing for the Magpies feels like a cruel blow.

However, it’s important to focus on the positives. For those who have seen the footage of Wissa collapsing in a heap, it feels like it could have been an awful lot worse.

Luckily, Woltemade got off the mark on Saturday. Hopefully, Howe’s side have enough in attack before Wissa’s return.
