Yoane Wissa’s debut for Newcastle United has been put on hold due to injury.

Newcastle United will be without new signing Yoane Wissa until after the October international break.

Wissa joined the Magpies on deadline day for £55million from Brentford and had been expected to make his debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.

However, a knee issue sustained on international duty with the Democratic Republic of the Congo ruled Wissa out of the match. And with Eddie Howe unable to provide an update on the severity of Wissa’s injury, social media rumours have been in full swing.

NUFC new signing Yoane Wissa ruled out until after October international break

A clip of Wissa awkwardly falling to the ground during Wednesday’s 3-2 defeat to Senegal sparked fears that he had suffered an ACL injury, however, scan results have revealed better news.

It’s understood the 29-year-old has avoided such a serious issue, though will be sidelined for the next four to five weeks at least.

That will see him miss the Magpies’ next six matches against Barcelona, AFC Bournemouth, Bradford City, Arsenal, Union SG and Nottingham Forest, with the hope being to involve him for the trip to Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, October 18.

NUFC reliant on new signing Nick Woltemade

Wissa’s absence will increase the reliance on £69million club-record signing Nick Woltemade, who made a dream start to his Newcastle career after scoring the winner in a 1-0 win against Wolves.

Speaking about Woltemade’s performance, Howe said:” You saw his qualities, his technical qualities that we've been discussing, his intelligence. But most importantly, for a striker, when the ball comes in the box, you need to be there. And he was today.

“It was a great finish. Really, really pleased for him personally, because that just settles him down and relaxes him. Very humble guy, wants to do well, he's delighted to be here. I think it's a great start.”

Woltemade converted in the 30th minute at St James’ Park after heading home Jacob Murphy’s cross.

Howe added: “I'll take loads more classics like that. For me, that's a great football goal. It's a brilliant cross from Jacob Murphy. He did that time and again for us last season. And as I say, Nick's where he needs to be.

“You see a lot of centre-forwards who aren't in the box these days, and I'm delighted that Nick is in there, because one of the challenges that he will face, because he's good technically and we want to use his technical skills, is that he finds himself out at goal-scoring areas. But he wasn't, and that's what he's paid to do.”

Newcastle United without two new signings until next month

Jacob Ramsey, who joined from Aston Villa for £39m in the summer, is also ruled out until after the October international break due to an ankle injury.

The midfielder sustained the problem during the goalless draw at Leeds United last month in what was his first start for the Magpies.
