Jacob Murphy and Alexander Isak's partnership last season was deadly in terms of their goalscoring output.

And the early signs are the 30-year-old winger could strike up a key partnership with Newcastle's new goalscoring hero.

Murphy's cross was pinpoint for Nick Woltemade, as the big German leaped above his marker to power home a debut goal.

Woltemade showed some neat touches and almost repaid the favour for Murphy in the first half as his deft lay-off to the winger allowed him to open up some space on his left foot and whip an effort just wide of Sam Johnstone's goal.

Naturally, Howe was then asked whether he feels Murphy and Woltemade's relationship could blossom this season.

"I hope so," Howe told reporters after the win over Wolves.

"I do believe in partnerships and relationships. Some players just gel together and he just needs to understand their game.

"Murph is one who likes to cross really early so it is understanding that and other plays like to delay and still deliver. He doesn't know the players at all yet really so it is just getting used to that and understanding the way they play."

Speaking to the pre-match programme, Murphy was at pains to point out how much he and the rest of the senior group of players at Newcastle have tried to make Woltemade feel at home.

"The additions late in the window of Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa were exciting for us all," Murphy said.

"We can't wait to shower them with the same amount of love that every new player deserves to get when they sign.

"We hope that they know that we value them greatly - and we're thrilled to be creating new experiences and new highs alongside them."

And that love was on full display with how vociferously his Newcastle team-mates celebrated with Woltemade in front of the Leazes End.

And it was on full display at full-time, too, as Joelinton pushed him in front of the Gallowgate End to take their acclaim.

In just four days, Woltemade has clearly made a positive impression on his team-mates and on Howe, too. If that continues to yield results like it did against Wolves on Saturday then it could be a very exciting marriage between Woltemade and his new club.
