Yoane Wissa missed Newcastle United’s 1-0 win over Wolves through injury but showed his support for his new teammates.
Yoane Wissa showed his support for his Newcastle United teammates following their 1-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Wissa could only watch on from the sidelines after a knee injury prevented him from making his Newcastle debut on Saturday afternoon.
The 29-year-old joined the Magpies from Brentford on deadline day in a transfer worth £55million but sustained a knee injury while representing DR Congo last week.
In Wissa’s absence, £69million club-record signing Nick Woltemade was handed his debut and he turned out to be the match-winner after heading home Jacob Murphy’s cross in the 30th minute.
It was a first win of the new Premier League season for Eddie Howe’s men, who had played out goalless draws with Aston Villa and Leeds United and lost 3-2 to Liverpool before the September international break.

Although Wissa was unable to be a part of the matchday squad, he was keen to show his support on social media by replying to several of his teammates’ posts.
On Instagram, Woltemade wrote “happy Nick, happy Toon” to which Wissa responded with an exhaling and heart eyes emoji, while he sent a brick and fire emoji to Kieran Trippier after the right-back said “can’t beat a Saturday with three points. Congrats @nickwoltemade on your first goal. Great support as always when we needed you.”
Wissa also replied “Room service” with a chef emoji to Murphy in a nod to his assist. Murphy wrote: “Winning at home. Best way to start a busy block and games. Thursday next!”
Yoane Wissa injury update
Unfortunately for Wissa and Newcastle, his debut will have to wait a little while longer with the player set to miss the next four to five weeks.
A clip of Wissa awkwardly falling to the ground during Wednesday’s 3-2 defeat to Senegal sparked fears that he had suffered an ACL injury, however, scan results have revealed better news.
It’s understood he has avoided a serious injury, though will be sidelined until the October international break.
That will see him miss the next six matches against Barcelona, AFC Bournemouth, Bradford City, Arsenal, Union SG and Nottingham Forest, with the hope he can be involved for the trip to Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, October 18.

On why he wanted to sign Wissa, Howe said: “He's an established Premier League goalscorer which is very difficult to find, difficult to recruit. I think he's got really good qualities, he had an outstanding year, not just last year but the last few years in the Premier League.
“He's got a history of scoring goals, he's done well against us and been a difficult player for us to handle when we've come up against him and I really admire the journey that he's been on to get to this point because it's not been easy for him.
“He's had big steps to make in his career but he's always adjusted and made them so hopefully he can do the same with us.”
