‘I didn’t expect this’ – £15m Leeds United target breaks silence on deadline Day drama

Leeds United are desperate to change the narrative following a disastrous end to the window. However, the defeat at Fulham on Saturday again exposed the squad’s failings in the final third and has brought their recruitment back into sharp focus.

The Whites have not scored a goal from open play this season, and the performances of their strikers and wingers at the start of the season have shown why Daniel Farke was desperate to add at least two more players towards the end of the window.

Leeds failed with a deadline day move for Fulham winger Harry Wilson, but there were other players who the club had their eyes on as well, and some of them were on the move on the final day of the window, when the Whites were getting desperate for reinforcements.

With the team struggling in front of goal, the targets Leeds missed out on in the window are being revisited, and one of them has opened up about the deadline day drama that led to his transfer.

Leeds United target Manor Solomon has talked about his deadline day move to Villarreal

Leeds were heavily linked with a move to take Solomon back to Elland Road all summer after he had a successful loan spell there last season.

The winger was also believed to be keen on the move, but Leeds never made a concrete offer for him. The Israeli eventually joined Villarreal on loan on deadline day.

Solomon was presented in a press conference last week, and the winger admitted that he was not really expecting to join Villarreal in the summer transfer window.

He was aware of Villarreal’s interest, but conceded that the move only became a real possibility towards the final hours of transfer deadline day on September 1st.

“First of all, I’m really happy to be here at Villarreal”, Solomon said in a press conference in Spain.

“The transfer happened in the last one hour or two hours of the window, so it was something that I didn’t expect.

“I know that Villarreal were interested in me, but it became really real just in the last few hours.”

Leeds may regret not moving for Solomon

Leeds signed Naoh Okafor as Solomon’s replacement in the squad, but the former AC Milan winger has played very little football this season and has looked lacklustre early in the season.

The Israeli had already settled into the Leeds squad and overcome his previous injury issues, meaning he wouldn’t have needed any time to adapt.

Leeds felt that they could get better options than Solomon, but that decision could come back to haunt them at the end of the season.

The side have not looked like scoring from open play in the first four games, and are not creating enough chances for their strikers.
