Jody Morris explains why Brentford's second goal vs Chelsea should have been disallowed

Chelsea were on the end of late heartbreak in their West London derby against Brentford, however former Blue Jody Morris believes the goal shouldn’t have even stood.

It looked as if the Blues had pulled off a sensational second-half comeback when they led 2-1 in the final moments of their first game back from international duty.

Cole Palmer’s brilliant strike was added to by a thunderous Moises Caicedo effort late on, however Fabio Carvalho levelled things in added time.

It had been a very poor start for a rotated Chelsea side. Blues fans were disappointed again by Jamie Gittens in his second Premier League start for his new club.

Jody Morris believes Brentford’s goal vs Chelsea should have been disallowed

Enzo Maresca will have been gutted to concede from a long throw-in so late in the game, however there was some controversy looking back at the strike.

Dango Outtara appears to try and play the ball after the throw-in is flicked on, and Morris believes he was stood in an offside position when he tries to do so.

He said: “Brentford player flicks it on and the Brentford player in offside position goes for the ball.. doesn’t touch it but clearly goes for it… offside.”

Maresca didn’t question the decision after the game, however the fuss that was caused after Josh King’s disallowed goal against Chelsea will have some Blues fans wondering if the same reaction is worthy.

Refereeing drama dominating Chelsea’s start to the season

The PGMOL offered an apology to Fulham after the aforementioned King incident involving Trevoh Chalobah, however there have been a number of incidents involving the Blues in the early weeks of the campaign.

Eberechi Eze’s free-kick was disallowed on the opening day of the season due to an encroachment on the defensive wall by Marc Guehi.

West Ham also saw a goal narrowly overturned due to offside, however again the right decision was eventually made.

Chelsea should feel hard done by that they did not see the late goal against Brentford, however will ultimately feel like they should have defended far better when it came to the hopeful long throw-in.
