‘Just got off the phone…’ - Journalist shares exciting behind-the-scenes update out of Arsenal

Arsenal have been handed a major boost over the futures of Bukayo Saka and William Saliba, whose current contracts expire in the summer of 2027.

Mark Brus has given an update on both players' situations and has been informed that there is optimism that both will be extending their stays at the Emirates. Speculation over Saliba in particular had been a concern given interest from La Liga giants Real Madrid.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed back in May that Madrid were "very interested" in the French defender who has been with the club since the summer of 2019. He has become one of Mikel Arteta's most important players, and it appears there is growing confidence that he and Saka will renew their contracts.

Saka and Saliba "100% Staying" At Arsenal

Brus revealed in his Daily Briefing that he had spoken to a trusted contact and learned that the Gunners are edging closer to finding agreements with the duo. The response he was given during a call was that "both will stay 100%".

Madrid's interest appears to be just that as there has been "no confirmed approach" and the France international is happy at the Emirates and "prioritising staying." He added that the reliable Hand of Arsenal X account had stated that contract talks with both players are "smooth sailing" and that sporting director Andrea Berta is "locking down both superstars to major deals".

Fans will undoubtedly be eager to hear confirmation from the club over renewals but may need to be patient while also waiting for the pair to also return to action. Saliba is sidelined with an ankle injury he sustained while away with France during the international break.

The 24-year-old missed his side's 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday (September 13) with Cristhian Mosquera filling in and catching the eye with an excellent performance. Still, the Frenchman will expect to come back into Arteta's backline alongside Gabriel Magalhaes, given the formidable partnership they have developed.

Saka was also absent with a hamstring injury and is expected to miss a couple of weeks, which is a concern given the same problem ensued last season. But Noni Madueke has shone since arriving from Chelsea in the summer, and the club's recruitment has been spot on to ensure issues such as the injury crisis they encountered last term don't plague Arteta's side this time around.
