Wolves must consider major decision after record-breaking stat emerges after loss v Newcastle…

Vitor Pereira may have saved Wolverhampton Wanderers from the drop last season but a 1-0 loss to Newcastle United has raised huge question marks over his future in the Molineux dugout.

It's been a worrying start to the campaign for Pereira and his side sit rock-bottom after four games. His men fell to defeat away at St James' Park after the Magpies' Alexander Isak replacement Nick Woltemade headed home a 29th-minute winner.

Wolves headed into the season after losing two of their main men following Matheus Cunha's £62.5m move to Manchester United and Rayan Ait-Nouri's £36.3m switch to Manchester City. The West Midlands outfit were busy in the window, but their disappointing run of results suggests another relegation battle is on the horizon.

Pereira made a huge impact upon arrival at Molineux in December 2024, guiding Wolves to two wins in his first four games in charge. He became an instant hit with fans after impressive victories over Leicester City (3-0) and Manchester United (2-0).

The Portuguese isn't enjoying such success at the start of his first full season as his troops have made history after their Newcastle loss. They have suffered four straight defeats for the first time in the club's history, and not even a 3-2 win over fellow strugglers West Ham United in the Carabao Cup can paper over the evident cracks.

Pereira remained upbeat despite starting the season without taking a single point in four games and said he was "proud" of his players and how they played away at St James' Park. The performance itself wasn't catastrophic, but the result and poor run of form are surely casting doubts on the 57-year-old.

There are some proven Premier League options for the Old Gold to turn to if they were to give Pereira the boot, including Sean Dyche and former manager Nuno Espirito Santo. Nuno is available after he was sacked by Nottingham Forest, but could remain in the English top-flight amid reports linking him with replacing Graham Potter at West Ham.

Pereira only signed an 18-month contract when he arrived last winter, which expires in June 2026. There has been no talk of the club's owners considering offering him an extension, and that may indicate they are unsure he is the man for the job in the long run.
