Why Alexander Isak is not in Liverpool squad as starting line-up named for Burnley

Alexander Isak is not part of Liverpool's matchday squad as the team news drops for the Premier League match against Burnley

Arne Slot arrives at the stadium prior to the 2025 FA Community Shield match between Crystal Palace and Liverpool at Wembley Stadium on August 10, 2025

Alexander Isak will have to wait for his Liverpool debut having been left out of the squad for today’s Premier League clash at Burnley. Isak made his first appearance of any kind since the end of last season when playing the final 18 minutes of Sweden’s World Cup qualifying defeat in Kosovo last Monday.

And having completed a £125million move from Newcastle United on deadline day at the start of the month, the visit to Turf Moor has been deemed too soon for the striker to feature.

Liverpool boss Arne Slot has instead named the same starting XI that helped beat Arsenal 1-0 at Anfield last time out.

It means a third successive appearance at right-back for Dominik Szoboszlai, with Milos Kerkez continuing on the other defensive flank.

Ibrahima Konate partners skipper Virgil van Dijk at centre-back with Alisson Becker in goal.

The midfield sees Alexis Mac Allister partner Ryan Gravenberch in the double pivot with Florian Wirtz in the number 10 role.

And up top, Hugo Ekitike will continue to lead the attack with Cody Gakpo to his left and Mohamed Salah on the right.

With Harvey Elliott having joined Aston Villa and Curtis Jones injured, Jeremie Frimpong is back on the bench after a hamstring problem and is joined by teenager Trey Nyoni.

LIVERPOOL (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Szoboszlai, Konate, Van Dijk, Kerkez; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Wirtz, Gakpo; Ekitike.

Subs: Mamardashvili, Gomez, Endo, Chiesa, Robertson, Frimpong, Bradley, Nyoni, Ngumoha.
