The Belgium international was due to undergo a scan after being forced off at half-time of Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Everton with a calf problem.
Tielemans’ exit added to the headache boss Unai Emery currently has in central midfield, with Boubacar Kamara and Amadou Onana still sidelined with hamstring injuries and Ross Barkley absent due to a personal issue.
Emery was forced to give deadline day signing Victor Lindelof his Villa debut in the middle of the park during the closing stages of Saturday’s match due to the shortage of numbers, with John McGinn and Lamare Bogarde the only recognised midfielders available.
Tielemans was crowned both players’ and supporters’ player of the year last season but like the rest of the Villa team had struggled for rhythm before suffering his injury.
Villa’s failure to score at Everton meant they became the first team in club history to draw a blank in each of the first four matches of a season.
“It is something we have to arrange tactically,” said Emery when asked about the lack of goals. “It is not just because of the striker, winger or defensive midfielder.
“We have to try to get something better to help the strikers to get into better positions to score.
“We can get confidence by drawing today and then winning in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday hopefully. I know the situation we are in and we are adapting to new players coming in.
“I accept the point. I am happy. I am worried a little bit, but confident for the future.”
