Ricky Hatton tribute plans confirmed for Man Utd vs Man City in Manchester derby

Manchester City have confirmed their tribute plans for Ricky Hatton's tribute ahead of the Manchester derby.

The British boxing icon was found dead at his home on Sunday (14 September). Greater Manchester Police confirmed his death is not being treated as suspicious.

A spokesperson from GMP said: "Officers were called by a member of the public to attend Bowlacre Road, Hyde, Tameside, at 6:45am today where they found the body of a 46-year-old man.

In a statement City said: "Manchester City are devastated to learn Ricky Hatton has passed away, aged 46.

"Ricky was one of City’s most loved and revered supporters, who will always be remembered for a glittering boxing career that saw him win world titles at welterweight and light-welterweight.

"Everyone at the Club would like to send our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time. We can confirm there will be a minute’s appreciation ahead of today’s game against Manchester United."

According to the Daily Mail, both sets of players will also wear black armbands during the clash.

The Hitman was a passionate City fan and he wore sky blue shorts and used Blue Moon as his walkout song throughout his career.

Ex-City captain Vincent Kompany paid tribute to the Hitman on social media - sharing a picture of the pair alongside Liam Gallagher: "We’ll miss you Ricky. Our thoughts are with the family and friends. Rest in peace legend."

Hatton was gearing up for a comeback against Dubai's first-ever professional boxer Eisa Al Dah at the time of his death. In his heartbreaking final social media posts, Hatton could be seen training for the bout alongside his son, Campbell Hatton.
