Seahawks bring up hard-hitting former Browns safety for Steelers game

The Seattle Seahawks are elevating safety D’Anthony Bell from the practice squad to the active roster for their game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. In addition, they have also elevated defensive tackle Brandon Pili for the game.

Bell is a key piece for the Seahawks secondary in this game, as he is the one player who could replace rookie sfafey Nick Emmanwori as the team’s big nickel. Emmanwori is out for the game with a high ankle sprain.

Bell had a whirlwind journey out of college, but was an undrafted free agent in the 2022 NFL Draft out of West Florida. He signed with the Cleveland Browns right after the draft, and ended up making a push for the roster.

Over the last three years in Cleveland, Bell has played in 50 games, adding two interceptions and 61 tackles over those games. He has worked mostly at strong safety, and plays special teams that can help him get on the field, too.

Aside from Emmanwori, the Seahawks are likely to be down their starting nickel cornerback, Devon Witherspoon, which could lead them to wanting to play more of that ‘big nickel’ personnel. Bell could be a real part of the Seahawks’ gameplay to keep the engine chugging against the Steelers.
