Lions WR Was Fined For Taunting In Week 1

The Detroit Lions just gave Jameson Williams a big contract extension.

They signed him to a three-year deal worth a whopping $83 million.

That’s why he can certainly afford to spare some cash.

As reported by Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, he was fined for taunting after a big catch in Week 1:

“The NFL fined #Lions WR Jameson Williams $11,593 for taunting after this catch in last week’s loss to the #Packers,” Pelissero posted on X.

Losing a game and also getting fined is pretty tough, but that’s just pocket change for him after the extension he secured.

There were some doubts about whether the Lions were going to keep him around for the long run, especially after getting Isaac TeSlaa in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Williams got off to a slow start to his career, also stemming from a suspension, and there were some red flags about his character.

Even so, he finally broke out last season, proving to be the type of big-play specialist that the Lions hoped he’d be after watching him dominate at Alabama.

He’s a speedy playmaker who can turn the corner in the blink of an eye, and the Lions will be wise to feed him early and often this season.

New offensive coordinator John Morton will be under a lot of pressure to call a better game in Week 2 against the Chicago Bears, and as such, Williams should be a big part of their plan.

Hopefully, he will keep his money in his pockets.

Although, to be fair, those fines and penalties are getting a little out of hand, that’s just a part of the game.
