Giants Reportedly Have ‘No Sense Of Urgency’ To Make QB Decision

The New York Giants overhauled their quarterback room in the offseason.

They signed two veterans in Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston while also trading up to draft Ole Miss rookie Jaxson Dart.

Dart looked to be ahead of schedule in the preseason, and he was one of the biggest talking points in training camp.

Wilson, on the other hand, struggled to get anything going in the season opener.

Once again, and given how he’s performed in the past four years or so, some believe the Giants should roll with their rookie right away.

However, they don’t feel the same way.

According to a report by Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Giants aren’t in a rush to get Dart on the field:

“There is ‘no sense of urgency’ in the New York Giants organization to bench Russell Wilson and start rookie Jaxson Dart, sources told ESPN. It doesn’t mean a change can’t come soon at the quarterback position, but the Giants would prefer that it not happen anytime soon, according to sources. New York would prefer to continue to be patient, let Wilson play well and give Dart the time he needs to develop, sources said,” Schefter wrote.

Head coach Brian Daboll has been nothing but supportive of Dart, who even beat Winston for the backup spot.

Even so, he’s been non-committal about whether he’s going to get him on the field, or even at all this season.

That used to be the way teams dealt with their rookie quarterbacks more often than not, knowing that getting them on the field before they’re ready can only hurt their development instead of boosting it.

Dart was an intriguing and appealing prospect coming out of college, but it seemed that he would benefit from a year on the sidelines.

Still, if Wilson continues to play that way, perhaps they will want to take a different approach and just see what they’ve got with their rookie signal-caller.
