More Leeds frustration as £26m star wanted by Daniel Farke scores on debut v Manor Solomon's Villarreal

Daniel Farke’s lack of options in attack was brought into sharp focus as Leeds United fell to a demoralising defeat against Fulham.

Although Leeds defended resolutely for 95 minutes at Craven Cottage, a freak Gabriel Gudmundsson own goal ultimately saw the Whites leave the capital empty-handed.

Although former target Rodrigo Muniz did not outperform Dominic Calvert-Lewin at Craven Cottage, the England international was guilty of missing Leeds’ best chance of the afternoon as Daniel Farke suffered more frustration.

Leeds’ toothless attacking display brought their frustrating end to the transfer window into sharp focus, as they missed out on a late move for winger Harry Wilson.

Now, a former £26 million Leeds target scored on debut against Villarreal, to add more frustration to Leeds’ blunt performance.

Former Leeds United transfer target scored on La Liga debut

Former Juventus winger Nico Gonzalez was one of several wingers linked with a move to Elland Road during the summer transfer window, as his time in Turin came to an end.

However, the Whites ultimately missed out on the former Marcelo Bielsa target as he elected to move to La Liga, joining Atletico Madrid on a loan deal.

Gonzalez went straight into the Atletico squad as they faced Villarreal, who signed former Leeds loanee Manor Solomon, in the first game back after the international break.

Whilst Solomon was forced to wait for his debut, starting the game on the bench, Gonzalez made an immediate impact in a 2-0 win for the side from the Spanish capital, their first win of the season.

Gonzalez ghosted in at the back post to head home from six yards out to show Leeds and Farke exactly what they have been missing at the start of the current Premier League season.

Manor Solomon forced to wait for Villarreal debut

Solomon is another winger who was heavily linked with a move to Elland Road before his move to La Liga, having enjoyed a successful season with the Whites during their promotion from the Championship.

However, the former Leeds man sat out the game against Atleti and may have to wait longer for his debut for the club, due to the frantic nature of the La Liga schedule.

Speaking in his press conference after their defeat, Villarreal boss Marcelino Garcia Toral explained: “If I knew when [his new signings] would be fully integrated, I would be psychic.

“But since I’m not, we’ll just try to look for that adaptation and assimilation of the patterns or concepts with which we play as soon as possible. We know that we play a game every three days, which will also prevent us from training, but that is not an excuse.

“They have to adapt quickly to what their teammates do, to what this competition is, to what our objectives are, and the coaching staff will try to make it as soon as possible, of course.”
