Seahawks elevate D’Anthony Bell, Brandon Pili from practice squad for Steelers game

The Seahawks made two expected moves Saturday, elevating safety D’Anthony Bell and nose tackle Brandon Pili from the practice squad for Sunday’s game at Pittsburgh.

Bell will likely fill the third safety role that had been planned for rookie Nick Emmanwori. Emmanwori has already been ruled out for the game due to a high ankle sprain suffered in last Sunday’s 17-13 loss to the 49ers.

Pili adds depth to the interior line and will likely get regular snaps in the defensive tackle rotation, specifically on run downs.

The elevations of Bell and Pili give Seattle 55 players on its roster heading into the day. Seven will have to sit out to get down to a gameday active roster of 48 by 90 minutes prior to kickoff.

What to watch, how to watch as Seahawks take on Steelers in Week 2

A core belief of Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald is that if a team’s process is good, then eventually the results will be as well.

That didn’t happen last Sunday when the Seahawks lost their season opener to the 49ers 17-13. Macdonald thought the Seahawks prepared well during the week and displayed the required desire and physicality on Sunday.

But when it mattered most, it was the 49ers who made more plays than the Seahawks, scoring a touchdown on a third down with 1:34 remaining, then forcing a fumble when Seattle was 9 yards away from the winning TD with 36 seconds left.

That loss means the Seahawks are already feeling some urgency to avoid falling to 0-2 as they now head to Pittsburgh to play the Steelers and former receiver DK Metcalf.

“We had a good week,” Macdonald said after practice Friday, adding that with a little more last-minute work the Seahawks will “feel great going into the game.”

Seahawks edge rusher Uchenna Nwosu will debut in Week 2 at Steelers

Seahawks edge rusher Uchenna Nwosu, who has played just six games each of the past two seasons, will make his 2025 debut Sunday at Pittsburgh.

And this time, coach Mike Macdonald hopes he is back to stay.

Nwosu sat out the opener against the 49ers while still on the mend from offseason knee surgery.

But he practiced fully all week and was declared good to go Friday.

Seahawks’ Devon Witherspoon doubtful for game vs. Steelers

RENTON — Sunday’s Seahawks-Steelers game in Pittsburgh could in part be decided by which team can overcome being short-handed in its secondary.

As expected, the Seahawks on Friday ruled out rookie safety Nick Emmanwori with a high ankle sprain suffered last Sunday against the 49ers.

However, coach Mike Macdonald said the rookie from South Carolina will not go on injured reserve, meaning the team hopes he will not have to miss more than three additional games. He’d have to sit out four if he went on IR.

Seattle also listed starting cornerback Devon Witherspoon as doubtful with a knee injury suffered in the fourth quarter of the 17-13 loss to the 49ers.
