Newcastle United were offered the chance to sign Rico Lewis by Manchester City as part of talks to sign Tino Livramento.
According to TBR, Newcastle United reportedly rejected the chance to sign Rico Lewis as part of a deal for Tino Livramento. Manchester City offered the homegrown wide man to the Magpies in their attempts to lure the Newcastle United star, which ultimately failed to materialise.
Newcastle United were steadfast in their stance over talented full-back Tino Livramento amid heavy interest from Manchester City. The Magpies were totally uninterested in selling the former Chelsea academy star to Pep Guardiola’s side, as Eddie Howe considered him a very important part of his plans.
Manchester City are preparing another approach in the near future, but that may once again prove unsuccessful. The reason for that is Newcastle United, as they are now ramping up efforts to agree a new deal with Livramento at the earliest.
As Manchester City held talks at some level for Livramento, they reportedly offered Newcastle United the chance to sign Rico Lewis as part of the deal for their defender. The Magpies rejected the idea, as they priortised keeping hold of their 22-year-old wide man during the summer.
Lewis was close to leaving Manchester City, with Nottingham Forest coming very close to signing him. However, the homegrown wide man ended up signing a new five-year deal at the Etihad following talks with Giardiola over his immediate and long-term future.
Manchester City are expected to chase Tino Livramento
Despite Lewis penning a new long-term deal at the Etihad, Manchester City are unlikely to cease their pursuit of Livramento, who is widely viewed as the long-term replacement for long-serving star Kyle Walker, who left the club to join Burnley in the summer.
Newcastle United will want Livramento at the club for a long time coming, and they view the versatile defender as a big part of their project. Even if Manchester City are adamant, it’s clear that Livramento will carry a humungous price tag, and as far as Lewis is concerned, that new contract may not mean anything should the club pursue another right-back in the near future.
