Bills’ White returns to lineup, team down two key defenders vs. New York Jets (Inactives)

The Buffalo Bills’ star defender of Week 1 will not suit up on Sunday against the New York Jets.

Ed Oliver will be inactive for today’s matchup after suffering an ankle injury at practice on Wednesday. Head coach Sean McDermott revealed that the injury occurred when a teammate stepped on Oliver at practice.

The loss of Oliver is massive. Oliver was a game wrecker against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1. He sacked Lamar Jackson, added a run stop and later forced a fumble on a Derrick Henry run late in the game.

Without Oliver, Buffalo may have to lean on second-round pick T.J. Sanders to step up.

Oliver is not the only key defender that the Bills will be missing on Sunday. Nickel cornerback Taron Johnson was listed as inactive on Sunday due to a quad injury. Cam Lewis is expected to take on Johnson’s role against the Jets.

Although the Bills will be down two of their defensive stars, the team will be getting Tre’Davious White back in the fold. White was projected to start opposite Christian Benford before he suffered a groin injury late in the summer.

Here’s a look at Buffalo’s full inactive list.

WR Curtis Samuel

NCB Taron Johnson

S Jordan Hancock

LB Shaq Thompson

T Chase Lundt

DT Ed Oliver

DE Landon Jackson

The Jets ruled out three players on Friday ahead of Week 2. New York will not have reserve running back Kene Nwangwu, wide receiver Josh Reynolds and defensive lineman Jay Tufele.
