Liverpool create stunning Premier League history with another late goal to beat Burnley

Liverpool have created a remarkable piece of Premier League history with yet another late winner.

The Reds took three points from their trip to Burnley thanks to a Mohamed Salah stoppage time penalty gifted by former Manchester United prospect Hannibal Mejbri.

Liverpool's late winners

Matchweek 1: Federico Chiesa, 88th minute vs Bournemouth (4-2)

Matchweek 2: Rio Ngumoha, 90+10 minutes vs Newcastle (3-2)

Matchweek 3: Dominik Szoboszlai, 83rd minute vs Arsenal (1-0)

Matchweek 4: Mohamed Salah, 90+5 minutes vs Burnley (1-0)

Salah smashed past Martin Dubravka in the fifth minute of stoppage time to snatch a 1-0 victory, and the lateness of the goal certainly isn't unusual this season.

In fact, Liverpool have set a new Premier League record by scoring a winning goal in the final ten minutes of a game four matches in a row.

That wasn’t the only bit of history either, with Salah’s strike his 188th in the competition, moving him ahead of Andrew Cole and up into fourth in the league’s all-time list.

It was also the 38th consecutive game that Liverpool have scored in, showing just how reliable Arne Slot’s reigning champions have become in front of goal.

On top of that, Salah has now scored 35 league penalties for the club, breaking Billy Liddell's record which stood since the 1960s.

The goal came after a match where Liverpool completely dominated the ball but created few clear cut chances.

That has been a recurring theme so far this season even with 12 points from 12.

Some new signings are also struggling, with the spotlight this time on £40million former Bournemouth left back Milos Kerkez who was taken off during the first half after picking up a yellow card for diving.

Salah went on to explain the difficulties his much-changed team are facing, explaining: “It was tough but I’m glad we managed it.

"We have a few new players in the starting line up and it takes time to adapt to our game and we try our best to make them confident in our game.

"We don't give up. We try and push ourselves to the limit and as team we did that.”

Liverpool won their 20th league title last season and then spent a massive £450m in the summer window, by far their most ever.

£79m Hugo Ekitike has so far been the standout signing with three goals and an assist in four games since his move from Eintracht Frankfurt.

Florian Wirtz continues to struggle since his £116m move from Bayer Leverkusen, but the pressure of that price tag has at least been alleviated by the signing of Alexander Isak.

The Swede quickly took Wirtz's as the most expensive player in the history of British football with a £125m move meaning only Neymar and Kylian Mbappe have fetched more money in the sport's history.

Isak was absent for the Burnley clash, but Slot suggested he could make his debut against Atletico Madrid next up in the Champions League.

"We think that in a week where we play three games in seven days, this is the best lead-up for him to be available against Atletico Madrid," Slot said of his record signing.
