Manchester United players have reacted on social media after Rasmus Hojlund scored on his debut for Napoli.
Hojlund took just 14 minutes into his debut to score his first goal for Antonio Conte's team on Saturday following a season-long loan move from United. The 22-year-old had a challenging time after his high-profile £72million transfer from Atalanta to United in 2023, managing only 26 goals in 95 appearances across all competitions.
This led to the Danish international falling down the pecking order once Ruben Amorim took over as manager last November. The subsequent arrival of attacking trio Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha meant that his departure was then inevitable.
And Hojlund has now had his say on scoring in Napoli's 3-1 win at Fiorentina this weekend. "First day at the new job didn’t disappoint," he said on Instagram.
Hojlund's post received likes from several United players. Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire have been among those to show their support.
After scoring an important goal for Napoli, Hojlund explained why he was delighted to get on the score sheet for his new club after leaving Old Trafford.
"I'm very happy with the goal," Hojlund said in an interview with Sky Sports Italy.
"Today we won an important match, and I'm really glad I scored and to be part of this incredible team."
Hojlund's next task will be trying to score in the Champions League for Napoli, with a league phase fixture against City next on the agenda on Thursday night.
"I think we just need to focus on the next match and keep sharp," said Hojlund.
"Everybody is going to play a lot of minutes, because we're in a lot of tournaments with a lot of games."
