‘It’s madness’ - Roy Keane delivers verdict on one mad moment during Liverpool’s win vs Burnley

Roy Keane has shared his verdict on the moment that led to Liverpool securing a 1-0 win against Burnley at Turf Moor.

Arne Slot continued his perfect record in the Premier League on Sunday despite his travelling side being frustrated by the hosts throughout the 90 minutes.

Milos Kerkez was substituted in the 38th minute after he gave away a foul on the halfway line, only minutes after receiving a yellow card for simulation.

The Reds struggled to break down the stubborn Burnley defence with only a handful of half-chances falling their way, which were ultimately spurned.

This remained the case until a moment of “madness” saw Liverpool awarded a penalty late into stoppage time, which Mohamed Salah converted in the 95th minute to secure the three points on the day.

Hannibal Mejbri “madness” left Roy Keane in disbelief

Roy Keane shared his verdict on the penalty live on Sky Sports and piled blame on Hannibal Mejbri after his handball of Jeremie Frimpong’s cross cost Burnley a hard-earned point.

“They keep going. They’ve got quality players and they have desire to win football matches. They’ve got good options off the bench as we’ve found out in a few of their games.

“Burnley showed a lot of grit, but Liverpool deserved to win the game by the way they dominated. Liverpool lacked quality, their final pass was so off today – but we were sitting there thinking they would get one more chance.

“And with Burnley, there’s a bit of madness at the end, just like at Old Trafford. When you come up, you have got to give yourself a bit of a chance.

“It’s not as if Hannibal’s unlucky. It’s madness, it’s cost them a point. And a point would have felt like a win. So it does knock them. Liverpool stuck at it, you have to keep going until the end. That’s what the top teams do.”

The Reds were certainly not at the races at Turf Moor, with Ryan Gravenberch the only standout performer for the champions.

Liverpool were heavy favourites heading into the clash, but Scott Parker executed his game plan to near-perfection, and his side managed to keep the Reds at bay for the majority of the match.

TBR Football reported that Alexander Isak was unlikely to make his debut on Sunday, and that proved to be the case as Slot decided against naming the Swede in his matchday squad.

A decision that would have been contested after the final whistle had the match ended in a draw, the Reds registered 27 shots on goal against Burnley, with only four of those on target.

Liverpool make Premier League history at Burnley

According to Opta Joe, Liverpool are now the first side in Premier League history to win their opening four fixtures with goals scored in the final ten minutes or later.

Although the Reds’ tendency to begin matches slowly will be a cause of concern for Slot, there is no denying the side’s ability to find a match-winning goal in the closing moments of a match.

Federico Chiesa restored the lead in the 88th minute against Bournemouth on the opening day, whereas Rio Ngumoha scored his record-making goal to win the match against Newcastle in the 100th minute.

And, of course, Dominik Szoboszlai secured the 1-0 win against Arsenal before the international break with his 83rd-minute free kick.
