The Minnesota Vikings have made not one but actually two announcements ahead of their game against the Atlanta Falcons.
The NFL season is in full swing, and boy, did it start in a dramatic way for the Minnesota Vikings. The team was up against the Chicago Bears on Monday, September 8, for Monday Night Football, and for a while, it appeared that the Bears were in for a blowout victory. But, as the clock ticked, the Minnesota Vikings successfully pulled off a late win, and the rest is NFL history. It was one of the most dramatic games of the first week of the NFL season.
Next up, the Vikings will face the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, September 14, for Sunday Night Football. It’s pretty sweet that this team has gotten two primetime games in the first two weeks of the season.
Sunday’s game is at home, so the Minnesota Vikings are going all out with special things to make this game extra exciting. In the end, it will be a showdown between Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy and Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr.
Minnesota Vikings Announce 2 Special Aspects of Falcons Game
So, what will make this game so special aside from the McCarthy and Penix Jr. matchup. The Vikings made two announcements on Saturday, September 13, about the game, and they’re both good ones.
In a post on X, the Vikings announced that they would be wearing theirclassic uniform for the Vikings vs. Falcons game. The news was met with some warm comments, one saying, “Best jerseys in the lineup and would support making these our primary home jerseys.” Another commented, “Why not openly recognize the greatness we’re seeing here and make this the main uniform going forward? It’s not just good—it’s a flawless modern evolution of the classic design, honoring tradition while looking fresh and bold for today’s game.”
One more commented, “Awesome. Can’t wait to see them tomorrow night.” Another said, “Why not release the JJ McCarthy limited version of these?”
The team also announced that “the 934th Airlift Wing, known as the Flying Vikings, will be conducting a flyover with one C-130 Hercules as part of the national anthem ceremony tomorrow night.” This news was also met with positivity, with one saying, “Always impressive to see military aircraft up close. The Flying Vikings know how to make an entrance.”
Minnesota Vikings vs. Atlanta Falcons Game Projections
So, what do the personalities in the NFL think about this upcoming game? In a Thursday, September 11, feature for the NFL’s website, Ali Bhanpuri, Tom Blair, Brooke Cersosimo and Dan Parr break down the Week 2 matchups and who they think will win.
For the Vikings, they predict a win, which is great. They’re also looking forward to the McCarthy s. Penix Jr. matchup.
“Michael Penix Jr. has had some tough luck in the early going of his NFL career, losing his last three starts — two in overtime — despite leading drives to put the Falcons in position to tie the game in the last two minutes of regulation in all three contests,” they note. “I’m just not sure his luck will change against Brian Flores’ defense in Minnesota.”
In ESPN’s similar piece with Week 2 predictions, Walder notes in the piece, “Minnesota’s Myles Price will return a kick or punt for a touchdown. Price had juice in his NFL debut Monday night, particularly as a punt returner, where he recorded 22 yards over expectation — second most in Week 1.”
