Blazers to Celebrate Lillard’s Return With Pioneer Square Rally

The Portland Trail Blazers will host a fan rally at Pioneer Courthouse Square on Sunday, Sept. 21 to celebrate the return of franchise great Damian Lillard and get fans excited for the upcoming season. The event, set to run from noon to 2 p.m., is open to the public and headlined by an appearance from Lillard himself.

The nine-time NBA All-Star is scheduled to make an address to the crowd and participate in a Q&A session with a Trail Blazers representative. Along with Lillard, the event will feature a street fair with different Trail Blazers booths, food, music, games and giveaways.

According to a release from the organization, the rally will focus on the Blazers’ importance to the region, as well as pay homage to Lillard’s impact on the team and Rip City community.

The Blazers selected Lillard with the No. 6 overall pick in 2012. He went on to etch his name in the record books as the franchise’s all-time leading scorer with 19,376 points — one of many franchise records and accolades Lillard picked up during his first 11 years in Portland. He was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks in 2023, but was waived by the franchise after tearing his Achilles in the playoffs this past season. That opened the door for Lillard to return to the Blazers this summer on a [three-year contract](/2025/7/17/24469608/damian-lillard-returning-portland-trail-blazers-contract-nba-free-agency). Lillard is expected to spend the 2025-26 season rehabbing from his injury, then make his return to the court in 2026-27.

Sunday’s fan rally will be held almost one month out from the Blazers’ regular-season opener against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Oct. 22.
