City were today devastated to learn of the sad passing of boxing legend Hatton, aged 46.

Ahead of kick-off, there was a tribute to the City fan as supporters of both teams joined together to remember the British boxing icon.

And after the game Guardiola reiterated his sympathy for Hatton’s family as well as commenting on the emotional pre-match events.

“I’ve been here 10 years and I remember many silences and I don’t remember one so, so, so intense as today,” he said.

“I want to say thank you so much to the Manchester United fans in the way they applauded and behaved.

“I know he was a world champion of boxing and it was a special, special moment.

“Of course, no words can contain the pain of the family right now for this loss.

“I know how big a Manchester City fan he was - he could live the good and bad moments of the last 10, 15 years. He enjoyed it.

“I know for the fans how much he was close. The moment was unbelievable, an experience I will remember always.

“I could feel the applause from every person, the gratitude from what he has done professionally and of course a massive City fan. It’s so sad and I feel so sorry for the family.”
