Eagles inactives: Could veteran edge rusher be a cut candidate?

KANSAS CITY, Mo. –The Eagles have finalized their roster for Sunday’s game against the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.

On Friday, running back Will Shipley (oblique) and tight end Dallas Goedert (knee) were ruled out with injuries. Philadelphia made three players healthy scratches: rookie center Drew Kendall and edge rushers Azeez Ojulari and Ogbo Okoronkwo.

Tanner McKee will suit up as the emergency quarterback. McKee can only play if Jalen Hurts and Sam Howell both get hurt. During’s Friday practice, he threw for the first time since the end of training camp. The third-year QB has been recovering from a fractured right thumb.

It’s not out of the question that Ojulari gets released at some point. The Eagles have seven even edge rushers on their 53-man roster and could release one of them to make room for their next addition.

During the first four the years of his career with the New York Giants, Ojulari was a productive pass rusher, amassing 22 sacks and 37 quarterback hits. But after missing 22 games for New York over the previous three years with lower-body injuries, Ojulari settled for a one-year, $4 million deal with Philadelphia.

Okoronkwo could also struggle to get on the field this year.

The Eagles elevated tight end Cameron Latu and safety Marcus Epps from the practice squad to play against Kansas City. Latu could replace Ben VanSumeren’s role as a fullback. Epps will play on special teams.
