Lions defensive line takes hit as starting pass rusher exits with injury

_**Update: Marcus Davenport returned to the game at the start of the third quarter. However, after returning, Davenport suffered a shoulder injury while sacking Bears quarterback Caleb Williams. He is questionable to return.**_

ALLEN PARK – Sunday at Ford Field brought a bit of deja vu for Detroit Lions pass rusher Marcus Davenport.

During the second quarter of the home opener against the Chicago Bears, the veteran defender exited the game with an ankle injury.

With 10:49 left in the period, Davenport and fellow Lions defender Aidan Hutchinson accidentally collided on what became a holding call against Chicago. As Hutchinson tried to make a play, he crashed into Davenport’s legs.

Davenport reappeared on the sidelines shortly after but was ruled questionable to return.

His health has been a talking point for Lions fans since the team opted to re-sign him in the offseason.

Last year, Davenport suffered a season-ending triceps injury in a Week 3 win over the Arizona Cardinals, leaving Detroit thin at edge rusher.

Fortunately for both Davenport and the Lions, Sunday’s designation of “questionable to return” is a more encouraging sign regarding the long-term severity of the injury.

At the time of his exit, Davenport had logged one tackle.
