Man United eye free transfer for Bayern Munich star

Erling Haaland scored twice as Manchester City beat rivals Manchester United 3-0 on Sunday.

Phil Foden put the hosts in front in the first-half, and Haaland then netted a second-half brace to earn Pep Guardiola’s side all three points at The Etihad.

The Red Devils have now picked up just four points from their first four games of the new Premier League season, with Ruben Amorim’s side sitting 14th in the top flight table.

The Portuguese will be desperate to see his side improve in the coming weeks, but in the meantime it appears that the Manchester side are eyeing an audacious move for a Bundesliga star.

As per Fichajes via GiveMeSport, United are hoping to sign defender Dayot Upamecano on a free transfer next summer.

The centre-back is currently playing for German side Bayern Munich, but his contract with the Bundesliga champions is set to expire at the end of the current campaign.

It is claimed that talks about a contract extension have stalled due to the player’s wage demands, with the France international therefore increasingly likely to depart Bayern as a free agent this summer.

The defender currently earns around £266,000-per-week, but it remains to be seen whether or not United would be willing to pay that amount to land the player.

Upamecano joined Bayern from fellow German side RB Leipzig in 2021 and has since made more than 150 appearances for the club across all competitions.

The centre-back featured 20 times in the Bundesliga last term as Bayern won the German top flight title.

At present, Amorim has the likes of Matthijs de Ligt, Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez as options in the centre of defence.
