Commanders fans on edge as fresh Jayden Daniels injury intel surfaces

Of all the injury concerns currently being navigated by the Washington Commanders, none is more concerning than the knee issue sustained by star quarterback Jayden Daniels. And after some rumors in recent days, some fresh intel from a team insider hinted that there is no smoke without fire.

And it came on a bogus call that was completely missed by the officials on Thursday Night Football.

Grant Paulsen from 106.7 The Fan revealed that Daniels' knee problem was serious enough to get an MRI following the game. That raised alarm bells among the fan base, but head coach Dan Quinn wasn't going to confirm anything one way or another until getting back into the groove after a long weekend to heal their wounds.

Jayden Daniels could miss practice time as Commanders take extra precautions

There was additional clarity provided by JP Finlay from NBC Sports. The team insider confirmed that Quinn will speak to reporters at 3.30 p.m. Eastern Time on Monday. He also thought Daniels' knee complication could see the signal-caller miss some practice time before Week 3 against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Dan Quinn will address reporters at 330 Monday. @granthpaulsen has reported Jayden had an MRI. From what I hear there are some concerns but not major. I’d expect news from DQ if not before and Jayden will likely miss some prax time.

Considering that Daniels and wide receiver Terry McLaurin are already playing catch-up in their pursuit of improving chemistry, this is far from ideal. At the same time, the Commanders cannot take any chances. They need their franchise player on the field. If that means taking precautions throughout the week, it's a small price to pay.

Daniels is capable of playing through pain. He proved that last season after suffering a broken rib against the Carolina Panthers. A knee injury represents a much bigger issue, especially for someone who relies so heavily on athleticism to get the job done.

It's an anxious time for Commanders fans. They've already lost defensive end Deatrich Wise Jr. and running back Austin Ekeler for the season. Noah Brown and John Bates both sustained groin injuries, so their respective statuses are unclear right now. But these pale into insignificance compared to Daniels.

Nick Jhabvala from The Athletic also thought the injury occurred on what appeared to be a hip drop tackle. That was missed by the officials, which only infuriates fans further.

This is the play in which Jayden Daniels appeared to come up hobbling a bit.

I don’t know how this wasn’t ruled a hip-drop tackle in game. Checks all the boxes:

✅ Wraps Daniels with both arms

✅ Unweights by swiveling/dropping hips

✅ Lands on Daniels’s leg(s) pic.twitter.com/VEwp031vyZ

There will be more information coming from Quinn. Commanders fans will be waiting with bated breath for good news. After all, the team's chances of going deep into the postseason once again rest almost entirely on Daniels' health.

The concern is mild for now. But this remains a precarious situation until further notice.
