The Bills struck first when Cook culminated a 12-play, 81-yard drive with a 1-yard TD. QB Josh Allen got the Bills moving with a 40-yard run on a third-and-8 play. Later DE Micheal Clemons was called for a roughing penalty on a third-and-18 play, negating a defensive hold, which would have forced a long field-goal attempt.
Then on the Jets' second offensive possession, veteran edge Bosa clubbed the ball away from Fields and A.J. Epenesa recovered at the NYJ 24. The Jets' defense stiffened inside the red zone, but Prater's 28-yard field goal pushed Buffalo's advantage to 10-0.
After Allen took a hit to his face, the Jets defense had an opportunity to get off the field against Trubisky. But he entered and connected with Joshua Palmer for a 37-yard gain to convert a third-and-7 play. Prater would later end that drive with a 52-yard boot and the deficit grew to 20-0 on Cook's 44-yard score.
Fields broke free for a 27-yard scamper late in the second quarter, but the Jets weren't able to capitalize with points. The Jets finished 0-of-11 on third down and had fewer less than 100 yards passing.
The Bills opened the third quarter with an 11-play, 64-yard march that ended when Prater's third FG – a 33-yarder – making it a 23-3 contest. And the Jets ran just three offensive plays in the frame as Buffalo ran a pair of time-consuming drives before making it a 30-3 game in the fourth on former Jets WR Elijah Moore's 4-yard run.
