Micah Richards and Robbie Savage both argue same thing about Man Utd’s display vs Man City,‘straight away’point made

Sky Sports pundit Micah Richards and BBC Sport pundit Robbie Savage were on the same wavelength over a key Manchester United detail after the Manchester City match.

Manchester United lost to Manchester City 3-0 at the Etihad on Sunday afternoon and the Red Devils have tumbled to 14th place in the Premier League table.

Pep Guardiola saw his City side bounce back from back-to-back Premier League defeats with a convincing performance against the Red Devils on the weekend.

Phil Foden broke the deadlock in the first half to put City 1-0 up before Pep Guardiola’s men built on their advantage against United in the second half.

Erling Haaland extended City’s lead after the break before the in-form 25-year-old Norwegian striker netted his second and completed his brace in Sunday’s derby.

Ruben Amorim watched on from the technical dugout at the Etihad as United fell to a 3-0 defeat to City, with the Red Devils unable to mount a real comeback.

Micah Richards singles out the ‘elephant in the room’ for Man Utd after the 3-0 Man City defeat at the Etihad

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has once again found himself under pressure after the first match post-September international break.

The 40-year-old former Sporting CP head coach has had a mixed start to the 2025-26 campaign, with United’s only win this season coming against Burnley last month.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Micah Richards has insisted that Amorim’s tactical system at United showed the real problems that the Red Devils faced against Manchester City.

“The system is not helping the United players at all. At all,” he said, as per BBC Sport.

“All the defenders are going for the same ball for the second goal. It was three versus two and [Erling] Haaland still ends up winning the ball and scoring.

“The lack of communication… if you are playing, you have to be talking. It is a hard system to play.”

Robbie Savage echoes Micah Richards’ sentiments with a clear-cut message to Man Utd manager Ruben Amorim

Amorim rolled out his tactical system after his arrival at Old Trafford last November and the Portuguese coach has stuck to his tried-and-tested formation and tactics.

However, former United player Robbie Savage has suggested that Amorim’s tactics are still not “working” and have “not worked for a while” at the Premier League club.

“I would change formation straight away – it is not working,” he said on BBC Radio 5 Live.

“As a manager, you have to make big decisions. Everyone can see this formation is not working.

“I understand principles, I understand methodologies – I get all that. The 3-4-3 is not working. It has not worked for a while.

“The number nine in this team will not score goals while this system continues.”

United will now return to Premier League action at Old Trafford on Saturday, with the Red Devils hosting Chelsea in another tough test in their 2025-26 season so far.
