Manchester United sunk to another low on Matchday 4 of the Premier League, getting blown out by crosstown rivals Manchester City 3-0 in a derby that was never really a contest.
With another terrible loss for Manchester United, more questions are being asked of Ruben Amorim, who, despite a heavy summer of investment, has somehow made the Red Devils even more futile than they were under Erik ten Hag.
Before the game, Amorim criticized Kobbie Mainoo, one of the team’s biggest gems and someone who has been disgruntled. Mainoo’s future has been cast in doubt, but Manchester United were able to convince him to stay this summer despite his desire to leave.
Although Mainoo started the derby on the bench, even though he is better than United’s starting midfielders, he was one of the bright spots in the final 30 minutes after coming into the game against City.
He had two tackles, two key passes, and a dribble completed in a solid all-around performance, showing that he belongs in the Manchester United starting lineup alongside top star and captain Bruno Fernandes.
Amorim may think that Mainoo needs more development, but even a developing Mainoo is better than the Portuguese manager’s subpar favorites. He seems to have a beef with the England international, and if he wants to avoid getting the sack this season, he has to put this silly vendetta aside.
Mainoo was crisp and above the players benching him. Amorim looks foolish for snubbing Mainoo, and hopefully a blowout against his rivals forces some sense into the manager.
