Titans drop to 0-2 after pitiful second half collapse vs Rams

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - The Titans lost the home opener to the LA Rams 33-19 and drop to 0-2 this season after an awful collapse in the second half.

After leading 13-10 in the first half, Tennessee was outscored 23-6 in the second half as the defense had no answers for Matthew Stafford’s passing game.

### **FIRST QUARTER**

The game began a lot like the Denver contest, filled with penalties and a quick sack that led to a three-and-out for Can Ward’s offense.

Star QB Matthew Stafford would waste no time leading a six-play drive capped with a 45-yard dart to Puka Nukua for the score.

The Titans’ next drive was just as ugly as the first, going just seven yards in three plays before the punt.

Stafford would find Nukua and Davante Adams for a couple of nice medium passes before the Titans would stuff Kyren Williams twice to force a punt, ending the quarter.

### **SECOND QUARTER**

Cam Ward would then lead the Titans’ most productive drive that went 10 plays and 48 yards. Ward converted a nice fourth and 1, scrambling for the first down. Tennessee would be stopped at the LA 37 yard line before Joey Slye kicked a 55-yard field goal to bring the score to 7-3.

Adams and Stafford would connect on the next drive for a 33-yard pass play. Shortly after, Tyler Higbee would be located for a 20-yard completion to bring the Rams to the red zone. Stafford at this point was 7/9 for 97 yards. Despite the ball being inside the Tennessee 10-yard line, the Titans would hold the Rams to a field goal to make it 10-3.

Both teams would trade punts before the touchdowns would have their best drive so far this season.

A 10-play 56-yard drive led by Tony Pollard, who pounded the Rams defense before Ward found rookie Elic Ayomanor for a 23 yard team ball to set up a nine yard touchdown pass to tie up the game.

On the very next possession, Stafford throw an interception to Cody Barton at midfield.

Slye would knock in another field goal going into the half to lead 13-10.

### **THIRD QUARTER**

The scoring for the quarter didn’t get started until nine minutes left as LA led a five minute drive down the field for a field goal.

The Titans would match with their own five minute drive to take back the lead 16-13.

Stafford would respond with a touchdown pass to Davis Allen on a eight yard touchdown pass to make it 20-16 going into the final quarter.

### **FOURTH QUARTER**

In the final quarter, the Rams would put it on the Titans scoring two touchdowns in under three total minutes.

The Titan’s offense would completely fall apart and become hard to watch as they registered a -13 yards in five plays.

Slye would knock in a final field goal to bring the final score to 33-19 as the Rams move to 2-0 with a massive second half comeback.

### **WHAT’S NEXT**

The Titans host the Colts next Sunday while the Rams will travel to face the defending Super Bowl champs, the Philadephila Eagles.
