Patriots’ $104 million man already paying dividends

Milton Williams made sure there would be no dramatic Dolphins comeback in the final minute on Sunday afternoon.

With Miami facing fourth-and-12 on New England’s 28-yard line with 0:53 remaining, the $104 million man got home on a four-man rush.

As Williams and Harold Landry ran a game on the left side of the defensive line, Williams bulldozed through Dolphins guard Kion Smith and sacked Tua Tagovailoa, effectively ending a 33-27 Patriots win.

“The whole game they did a good job of making sure to get the ball out of Tua’s hand quick, and we just kept going,” Williams said. “Me and Harold made a good call on that one... I just got off the ball, and shoot, we executed when we needed to.”

Early in his Patriots tenure, Williams has certainly made his presence felt in the pass rush as an interior defensive lineman.

In his debut, Williams hit Geno Smith twice, and he finished Sunday’s game with two sacks and six pressures, per PFF’s charting, despite Tagovailoa’s quick release. The high-priced free agent has registered 10 pressures in his first two games with New England, and on his final snap in the South Florida heat, Williams was able to put Sunday’s game on ice.

“We’ve been working. We’ve been going hard. Coach has been on us. This ain’t going to do nothing but help us,” Williams said. “Just keep going, keep building. We’ve gotta move on quick in this league and get ready for Pittsburgh coming in here next week, but this is a good win for us. Good division win. We’re back at .500. Let’s keep building on that.”
