Roy Keane has ripped into one Manchester United star following his horror display in the 3-0 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.
Manchester United’s Premier League season has not been off to the best of starts, as a 3-0 loss to local rivals Man City gives the red half of Manchester four points from just as many games.
Ruben Amorim was always going to be under a certain amount of pressure this season, but since losing to Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup earlier this season, he, his players, and his methods have been under serious scrutiny.
In the wake of this latest loss, Luke Shaw has been under the microscope for his lacklustre defending, with legendary-ex-midfielder Roy Keane furious at the England left-back, saying: “Shaw is an international footballer, so for him to get caught out like that.
“I think he has been getting away with murder for years at United. Always injured and never quite fit. We make excuses and then he gets a few games under his belt and he’s making decisions like he doesn’t even want to tackle anyone.”
Keane not happy with United star
During his time at United, Keane was known for his take-no-prisoners way of playing football, picking up plenty of yellow and red cards during his career, whilst also spurring his team on as the captain.
The Irishman was furious with United for their lack of intensity, saying: “Not one yellow card. The Manchester derby, it’s raining and set up for a few tackles.
“United [should] walk off the pitch! I am sick of repeating myself. It’s a derby game. You shouldn’t be able to get out of bed for a week, not one yellow card!
“Try tackling. Try hitting somebody. Football is a physical game.”
Keane isn’t the only critic of the often injured Luke Shaw, with one obvious replacement already a firm part of Amorim’s squad.
Shaw’s replacement is obvious
Instead of the Englishman across United’s back three, fans are questioning whether it would be better to play Leny Yoro on the left with Noussaair Mazraoui coming in on the right.
Amorim has defended his formation and style in the wake of this fixture, as reported by the Standard, the manager said: “When I want to change my philosophy, I will change; if not, you have to change the man.”
He also doubled down on his commitment to United, emphasising: “My message is that I’m going to give everything. I will do everything, always thinking about what is best for the club.”
Only time will tell whether Shaw stays starting, or even whether Amorim reaches the one-year mark in charge of this floundering club.
