With the Chiefs down 20-10 to the Eagles in the fourth quarter, Patrick Mahomes did what he’s done so many times before: Fired a deep pass for a touchdown.
But it wasn’t Travis Kelce, Isiah Pacheco or Hollywood Brown who caught the pass. It was Tyquan Thornton.
On first-and-20, Mahomes dropped back, scanned the field and threw the ball 49 yards right into the hands of Thornton for the touchdown.

It was Thornton’s first score of the season.
Thornton was selected in the second round by the New England Patriots in the 2022 NFL Draft. He was released in November 2024 after failing to carve out a role for himself in a crowded wide receiver room. He also dealt with injuries during his time in New England.
The Chiefs signed Thornton days after his release.
After Kansas City lost top wide receiver Xavier Worthy to a dislocated shoulder for the time being, the Chiefs looked to Thornton, along with fellow former Patriot JuJu Smith-Schuster to take on more reps.
While Thornton’s touchdown got the Chiefs within a possession, it’s all they could muster as they fell to the Eagles.
