Last week, Gazzetta dello Sport reported Aston Villa loanee Leon Bailey could make his AS Roma debut this month, having picked up a muscle injury in his first training session with the Italian club.
The newspaper noted that the 28-year-old was going to have a medical test on Tuesday to understand the extent of his injury.
The timeline for the Aston Villa player’s recovery seems to be extending.
Il Tempo, relayed by RomaNews, report that Bailey will certainly miss Roma’s key game against Lazio next weekend and will also be missing from their Europa League opener against Nice on the 24th of September.
The outlet report that the winger’s return to action is taking ‘longer than expected’ and there is no fixed date on when he can make his Roma debut.
This is now raising concerns at the Giallorossi, who paid a loan fee of around €3m to Aston Villa and also have the option to buy the player permanently for €22m.
The Jamaica international was seen as a key signing by Gian Piero Gasperini, who was keen on bolstering his attack in the summer transfer window. Now, he will have to wait longer, with Roma having lost 1-0 to Torino on Sunday afternoon.
