ESPN claims that the deal between FanDuel and the Jaguars was finalised earlier this year, with the NFL involved briefly in the talks.

The league reportedly “encouraged” the parties to come to a resolution, with FanDuel “motivated” to do so to maintain its ties with the NFL.

Patel was found guilty of stealing the money from the Jaguars via a credit card expenses system operated by the American football team.

He is currently serving a six-and-a-half-year jail sentence.
