Gary Neville shares Ruben Amorim sack fears after Man Utd loss to Man City

Gary Neville reckons Ruben Amorim is feeling the heat at Manchester United and has warned that serious questions will emerge if they fall to Chelsea this coming weekend. The Red Devils were thoroughly outclassed in Sunday's Manchester derby against a City side that had previously dropped their last two fixtures. Phil Foden's opening-half strike was complemented by an Erling Haaland brace after the break - delivering a crushing 3-0 loss for United against their fierce neighbours.

Amorim's faltering team have managed just a single triumph this campaign - a slender 3-2 victory over promoted side Burnley. United have also endured a catastrophic League Cup elimination by League Two minnows Grimsby Town and are suffering through their most disappointing Premier League campaign on record. The former United skipper and defender now acknowledges mounting worries regarding Amorim's future following another woeful result. He suspects the pressure will intensify should United fall at home to Chelsea this coming Saturday.

"I think there will be some pressure applied to the manager and his rigidity of sticking with the system," he told Sky Sports. "City have beaten them well and comfortably.

"United had some good moments in the game – the first 15 minutes and the first five minutes of the second half. City, in big moments, have had better players. Foden, Doku, Haaland have stood out.

"There have been times when I have seen United lose this type of match when I feel angry and frustrated. I just feel nothing, which is even worse.

"This has been a nothing of a performance. United have just been beaten. With Chelsea next week, another defeat and big questions would start to be asked."

Amorim, on the other hand, has made it clear that if United are looking for a change in their playing style, they'll need to look for a new manager.

"Guys, I understand that and I accept," he stated after the match on Sunday. "It is not a record you should have at Manchester United. There are a lot of things - you have no idea what happened during these months - but I accept that. I am not going to change.

"When I want to change my philosophy, I will change. If not, you have to change the man. We will talk about that every game that we lose. I don't believe in that, in the system, or whatever. I believe in my way and I am going to play my way until I want to change.

"My message is that I am going to give everything. I will do everything, always thinking about what is best for the club. That was always the same message.

"It is not my decision, the rest (on whether United change manager). Until I am here, I will do my best. I really want to win games. I am suffering more than them."
