“Shirt fits me like a glove” – Player thrilled to sign for Wolves, even if he is a big Manchester United fan

Tolu Arokodare is delighted to have completed a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers even though he supported Manchester United from a young age.

Wolves signed the striker from KRC Genk in the summer window and Het Laatste Nieuws interviewed him to discuss several topics, including his move to the Premier League.

Arokodare admits he comes from a “family of Manchester United fans”. According to HLN, he and his three older brothers grew up watching the likes of David Beckham, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Cristiano Ronaldo play for the Red Devils.

Despite supporting Manchester United, the 24-year-old is pleased that Wolves brought him to England. There were reports linking him to Napoli and AC Milan, but the frontman explains he didn’t need to be convinced to join Vítor Pereira’s side.

“When Wolverhampton became concrete, I didn’t hesitate for a second. No one had to convince me. Everyone also knew I absolutely wanted to go to the Premier League. There might have been other rumours [AC Milan and Napoli], but in my head, I only wanted one thing,” he said.

“The Wolverhampton shirt already fits me like a glove. [Wolves are known for] using their strikers well. I’ll benefit from that.”

The Nigeria international arrived at Molineux on deadline day and has requested for time to initially adjust to the new surroundings even though he feels the Premier League suits him.

“Look, I’ve played football in Germany, France, and Belgium in recent years. The only thing missing from that list for me was the Premier League,” Arokodare explained.

“A competition that suits my qualities perfectly. One that’s tailor-made for me. I’m strong and I’m fast, which will come in handy here. It will take some getting used to in the first few weeks, but I’m ready for this challenge. And I’m going to do everything I can to succeed here.”

Wolves reportedly paid €26m plus bonuses to secure his services and he became Genk’s new club-record sale. Arokodare was frustrated that the negotiations dragged on for long.

“Honestly, I’m not really focused on that record amount. But it’s good for Genk and I’m happy, so…. It took a long time this summer, but in the end, everything worked out well,” he added.

“Did it get frustrating at some point? Yes, but as a professional footballer, you have to be able to handle that. My family and friends made sure I stayed calm and never panicked.”
