Andre Onana's coach makes bold transfer prediction after Man United exit -'I told him'

Andre Onana “will be in demand” next summer after finally ending his Manchester United woes, according to one of his international coaches. The Cameroonian international sealed a move away from Old Trafford in the summer.

He signed for Turkish side Trabzonspor on loan until the end of the season. While Onana will be attempting to recover his form with his adopted employers, his Cameroon coach Carlos Kameni has backed him to do just that.

“It’s a good choice. Andre was struggling at Manchester United,” he said to Africa Foot.

“Last season, he was heavily criticised, and since the start of the season, he’d barely played (one cup match), and everyone, including him, understood that he was likely to spend a lot of time on the bench or in the stands.

“I told him he was right. It’s a good choice. It’s better to be a starter at a very good club in a good league than a substitute at a big club in a big league, right?

“In Turkey, he’ll certainly be watched, because he’s a very good goalkeeper, but I think he’ll be under a little less pressure than at Manchester United.”

Kameni has so much confidence that Onana will return to his best form sooner rather than later, that he believes that there could potentially be a scramble for his services next summer.

Andre Onana is expected to have plenty of interest next summer

Asked if Onana could be back at a top five European side, he replied: “Yes. He hasn’t lost his qualities at Manchester United.

“As can happen to all great athletes, he may experience a more complicated spell for a few months. Andre Onana is very professional, he remains a reliable player, and if he has a good season in Turkey, he’ll be in demand next summer.”

Onana still has just under three years left to run on the contract he signed when completing a £47.5m move from Italian giants Inter Milan.

Since then, he has made 102 appearances for United, with high-profile errors blighting his game. Onana made just one appearance for United this season ahead of completing his switch to Turkey.

That came in the embarrassing Carabao Cup exit at the hands of League Two side Grimsby Town.

Onana was handed his debut for his new employers on Sunday after being named in the starting lineup to face Fenerbahce. There were a number of familiar faces in the opposition side.

Former United midfielder Fred was named in the Fenerbahce starting XI, as was ex-Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson after he also completed a summer move to Turkey.
