Former Steelers QB injured in disastrous second start with new team

Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Justin Fields struggled in his second start with the New York Jets, and was placed in the concussion protocol after a sack in the fourth quarter of the team’s 30-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills.

Fields struggled mightily just one week after dicing up his former team. He went 3 of 11 for 27 yards wit h five rushes for 49 yards on the day. Overall, the Jets scored a late touchdown to make the game appear closer, but the Bills cruised for much of the game.

Fields will have to clear the protocol by next Sunday to play, but if he does not, the Jets would start Tyrod Taylor. Taylor went 7 of 11 for 56 yards and a touchdown.

Fields’ Week 2 stat line is a far cry from the great game he had against the Steelers defense. He went 16 of 22 for 218 yards and a touchdown while adding 48 yards and two more touchdowns on the ground.

“I’m just calling it what it is. They acquired all these guys in the offseason — future Hall of Famers on that side of the ball — and we put up 32,” Fields said after the Week 1 game.

The Jets will go back to the drawing board before they face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next week.
