West Ham United Academy goalkeeper Finlay Herrick continued his strong start to life in the Enterprise National League as his local club Boreham Wood cruised to a 3-1 victory over Altrincham, moving into the play-off places.
Two goals from Erico Sousa and a Zak Brunt penalty put the Hertfordshire club in control before half-time. Having gone untested in the first half, Herrick was called into action after the break, making a string of fine saves. He could do little, though, to prevent Jimmy Knowles pulling one back just before the hour mark. That effort proved no more than a consolation as the Wood comfortably saw out the win, extending their unbeaten run to nine games in all competitions since their opening-day defeat to leaders Rochdale.
Also in the National League, Mason Terry’s Braintree Town were edged out 3-2 in a thoroughly entertaining game against promotion favourites York City at Cressing Road.
The Iron raced into a two-goal lead thanks to Fulham loanee Terrell Works, before Alex Hunt’s free-kick halved the deficit. Works had the chance to complete his hat-trick and put the game beyond reach, but fired over from close range.
Despite Terry producing four outstanding one-on-one saves and earning another Man of the Match nod, York’s late pressure told as they struck twice to turn the game around. The result sees Braintree drop into the relegation places for the first time this season.

In EFL League One, Gideon Kodua made his third consecutive start for Luton Town, who were beaten 3-2 by Plymouth Argyle.
The Pilgrims arrived at Kenilworth Road still searching for their first away points of the season. The Devon team twice took the lead only to be pegged back from the penalty spot, with Kodua winning the second spot-kick.
Reduced to ten men on 50 minutes after their captain Joe Edwards’ dismissal, Argyle still found a winner in bizarre fashion. In the aftermath of head coach Tom Cleverley’s red card, a corner was cleared straight into Bradley Ibrahim and ricocheted into the Luton net.
