Head coach Steve Kerr (L) and governor Joe Lacob of the Golden State Warriors look on during a game between the Warriors and the San Antonio Spurs.
The Golden State Warriors might be the most unsettled contender in the league heading into the 2025–26 season. Training camp is closing in, yet the roster is still incomplete. The holdup remains Jonathan Kuminga. His restricted free agency has dragged on for months, leaving Golden State unable to finalize other signings due to the cap.
Once the Kuminga saga is resolved, the Warriors are expected to move quickly on names they’ve already been linked to — Al Horford, De’Anthony Melton, Gary Payton II, and Seth Curry. Those moves would address the frontcourt and bolster the backcourt, but forward depth remains a glaring question mark. Behind Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody, the rotation looks shaky.
Warriors’ Forward Depth Still a Concern
Gui Santos could play his way into a role, but he’s still unproven. And while guard reinforcements are expected, Golden State needs to find another wing who can hold his own on both ends. That’s where an overseas option enters the conversation.
Sports Illustrated’s Liam Willerup floated the idea of targeting Isaac Bonga — a EuroBasket champion and former Los Angeles Laker — as a fit for the Warriors.
Isaac Bonga’s Rise on the International Stage
Bonga, a 6-foot-8 forward, spent four years in the NBA before carving out a strong career overseas. He played in the EuroLeague with Bayern München and later joined Serbian powerhouse Partizan Mozzart Bet. There, he rebuilt his game. Most notably, he sharpened his three-point shot, clearing 40% last season across league and tournament play.
At EuroBasket 2025, Bonga stood out as one of Germany’s most reliable two-way players. He averaged 9.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.1 assists. He shot 53.3% from the field and 45.2% from deep. In the elimination rounds, he delivered with 20, 15, and 10-point outings that helped Germany secure the title. He was also named Best Defender of the Tournament. It was proof of his value beyond scoring.
Why Bonga Fits the Warriors
For a team that needs size, versatility, and floor spacing around stars like Butler, Stephen Curry, and Draymond Green, Bonga checks every box. His ability to defend multiple positions and knock down open shots could make him an ideal role player in Steve Kerr’s system.
The challenge? Bonga has an exit clause in his deal with Partizan, but Golden State would need to act quickly before other teams jump into the mix. And that means finally resolving the Kuminga standoff. Until then, the Warriors remain stuck in neutral.
